Prayer thought: It is true that those who would be great must be like the servant of all.

Australia will soon be facing a Federal Election and the denigration of our nation’s Christian values is of concern to us all as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ

We must also pray for our leaders as in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 which includes our new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott. It is critical at this time that we pray for them.

Pray too for those who are standing in your electorate.

Lord we take seriously your word which urges us to pray for our leaders and today we want to pray for those who will become part of the next parliament – the government and the opposition. I name ____________________________________

May they receive grace and wisdom, discernment and fortitude, may they live with integrity and honesty and have hearts that seek justice and truth. How wonderful it would be Lord if they advanced your Kingdom through their political leadership

As we face an election Lord we pray for our attitudes – help us to pray over this time, rather than become annoyed at all the advertisements and cynical and critical.

We pray for our country, Lord have mercy on us.

The values that the nation lives by are so contrary to your values,

Lord have mercy on us.

Lord help me to live with integrity as I face this election, help me to take the time to get to know the candidates and to be a committed intercessor

Lord have mercy on us

1 Timothy 4:1-4

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior,  who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
