Levi House - Emergency Accommodation

Levi House
Providing a safe, caring and effective refuge for Launceston’s homeless. For more information please email levihouse@door-of-hope.org or phone (03) 6344 8450.

What is Levi House?
Levi House is a crisis accommodation service being developed in Launceston.

What is homelessness?
Homelessness is more than not having shelter.  It means losing the normal supports at home – a place of safety, belonging and familiarity, a place where one develops skills and self-confidence.

Who are homeless?
There are no stereotypes. Homelessness can affect people of all ages, races, backgrounds, family situations, religion or gender.

Families who become homeless have nowhere to seek refuge. They are provided with short-term motel or caravan park accommodation.

We need to help these desperate members of our society by empowering them and thereby enabling them to take greater control of their lives.

Children experiencing homelessness often have many issues to deal with such as grief, loss, low self-worth, family violence and isolation.  They are among the most disadvantaged in our society.  Levi House will provide specialist help according to the needs of each child.

Our Vision
Shelter…provide a safe, caring and effective refuge for Launceston’s homeless.

Help… shelter and assistance to all groups in our community.

Care… we will treat each person equally as a unique and valuable member of our community.

Hope… provide each person with skills and encouragement to develop confidence in decision making.
Change… provide choices and opportunities to begin to make life changes for the better.

Future… believe in each person and demonstrate that there is always a fresh start.

Who will we help?
Levi House will offer assistance to any person over the age of fourteen who is homeless or in housing crisis.

However, we will aim to provide more than just emergency accommodation.  By building relationships based on trust, we aim to help clients to make positive, lasting changes in their lives to achieve:

  • Independence and re-integration into the community (eg. Housing and employment).
  • Self-esteem and self-confidence in decision making.
  • Essential living skills including financial management.
  • Strategies for overcoming life controlling issues (eg. drug and/or alcohol abuse).
